Keeper Rules

Beginning with the 2010 season SCRL will adopt a keeper policy as follows:

2010 Draft:

1 – Every team must keep two (2) players from their 2009 roster. These players will be added to rosters independently of the draft – they will not be available to other teams in the 2010 draft.

2 – Both players kept in 2010 will be considered 1st round draft picks with respect to future years.

3 – Keeper time limitations will begin in 2010.

4 – Keeper time limitation will be three (3) years.

 2011 and Beyond:

1 – Owners will be able to keep 4 (5 starting in 2013) players every year with no position requirements.

2 – Cost of keepers:

A – Monetary Cost – There is no monetary cost for keepers.

B – Draft picks – Keepers cost owners a draft pick based on the round they were first selected in. If a player is drafted in round 12 that player can be kept for the next three (3) years by forfeiting a 12th round selection.

i – If two players from the same round are kept, owners must forfeit the subsequent continuous successive pick.  For example if two 12th round players are kept, they will cost a 12th rounder and a 13th rounder.  However, the 13th round pick is the worst pick that can be used for the player in this example.  If, in this case, the manager does not have a 13th round pick because it was traded, the 12th round player cannot be kept with the next available pick (i.e. 14th round).  In order to keep this player, the manager must use the previous round’s pick (i.e. 11th round).  (Amended 7/2012, into effect for 2013 season).  In summation, two players being kept in the same round will cost that round’s pick and the subsequent continuous successive pick, but the continuous subsequent picks MUST be available.  If a manager is attempting to keep a player where they do NOT have the continuous subsequent picks, due to it being traded, the manager may keep the player(s) with the next lowest (higher valued round, 1 being highest) available pick. In the example of 1st round keepers, in order for a manager to keep two first round players the manger MUST have a 1st and 2nd round pick, and so on.  Plain and simple, players in the same round rounds down if a subsequent pick is available, if the pick is not available with one or multiple players it rounds up.

C – (Amended 12/2010) – Players drafted will retain that value until they are not kept.  To clarify, if a player is drafted in the 4th round, for example, and dropped at any point in the year, they do not have the value for a default free agent, and will hold the value of when they were drafted until a season goes by when they are unkept.

3 – Additional Keeper Rules:

A – Players can only be kept for three years. Players’ keeper window is effective for any year in which they are kept. Keeper windows do not reset because a player is traded or dropped in a season. Player’s keeper value will only reset when they are not kept for a season.

B – Only those players on your team at the start of the playoffs can be kept.

C – Free agents have a default keeper value of the last draft round. (Amended 2/2012)

4 – Keeper DL Spots (Amended 1/2011)

A – 3rd DL Spot – Any player that has been previous kept may be used in this 3rd DL spot, regardless of 15-day or 60-day DL status.

B – 4th DL Spot – Players may be put in the 4th DL spot under the condition that if a player is put in that DL spot, they MUST be kept for next season.  Upon placing a player in the 4th DL spot you must announce this via post on the League website.  This player retains that keeper status regardless of being dropped or traded.

i. – Starting on the first day of play in the 2013 season, managers may opt out of keeping this player by forfeiting a pick 3 rounds below than the player’s value that was to be kept.  If that pick is not available the next round above pick shall be forfeited.  (Amended 6/2012)

C – Managers placing ineligible players in DL Keeper spots with have the last player picked up/player picked up to replace the player illegally put in the DL Keeper spot dropped by the Commissioner.

D – DL Ineligibility infractions will be noted and dealt with accordingly (Amended 2/2018)

i – First infraction of season – 2-day add/drop suspension

ii – Second infraction of season – 7-day add/drop suspension

iii – Third infraction of season – 14-day add/drop suspension, mandatory 14 hours counseling and watching Too Many Cooks in its entirety.

5 – The player formerly referred to as Daisuke Matsuzaka may now only be referred to as Raisins Matsuzaka
